Standards are published documents that establish specifications and procedures designed to ensure the reliability of the materials, products, methods, and/or services people use every day. Standards address a range of issues, including but not limited to various protocols to help ensure product functionality and compatibility, facilitate interoperability and support consumer safety and public health.
Standards form the fundamental building blocks for product development by establishing consistent protocols that can be universally understood and adopted. This helps fuel compatibility and interoperability and simplifies product development, and speeds time-to-market. Standards also make it easier to understand and compare competing products. As standards are globally adopted and applied in many markets, they also fuel international trade. Find out more...
Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) typically oversee the development of standards. SDOs serve as facilitators for the standards development process, offering the platforms, rules, governance, methodologies and even facilitation services that objectively address the standards development lifecycle. Each SDO is independently run, maintaining their own methods, policies and process to ensure high quality outputs and reinforce the market relevance of industry and technology standards. The process of developing a standard is typically facilitated by a Standards Development Organization (SDO), which adheres to fair and equitable processes that ensure the highest quality outputs and reinforce the market relevance of standards. SDOs such as IEEE, IEC, ISO, and others offer time-tested platforms, rules, governance, methodologies and even facilitation services that objectively address the standards development lifecycle, and help facilitate the development, distribution and maintenance of standards. While the goals of each SDO are essentially the same, each SDO applies its own rules, processes, terminology to the standards development process. Find out more...
Technical standards are formal documents that establish uniform engineering or technical criteria, methods, processes and practices developed through an accredited consensus process. Recognizing the important role standards play within the engineering, technology and computing fields, IEEE is providing resources to help introduce and teach undergraduate and graduate students, as well as professors and educators, about technical standards. Knowledge of standards can help facilitate the transition from classroom to professional practice by aligning educational concepts with real-world applications. Find out more...
TryStandards.org was developed to provide users with descriptions and access to all known credible programs and courses for education about Standards at the university and post-university (continuing education) levels, and to also provide a search facility for all technical standards maintained by all recognized standardization bodies in IEEE's fields of interest.

TryStandards.org offers three search functions: course search, Standards Development Organization search, and standards search:
Course Search Tips: You may search for courses available around the world related to standards. If you select a country to narrow your search, you'll be able to then further refine your search by selecting a state or region, and then a city. Alternatively, you may type in a university name in the top box, or select a course category, such as "computer" or "bioengineering." to start your search. You may limit your search to individual courses, or to the delivery location (online, classroom, etc.) For a full list of results, simply select "search." Then, click on the name of the course for more details about the course as well as contact information.
Standards Development Organization Search Tips: You may do a quick search by typing in all or part of a SDO's name or acronym, or select a country for a list of SDOs in that location. Then, click on the name of the organization for details about their standards development and education initiatives as well as contact information.
Standards Search Tips: You may do a quick search by typing in all or part of a standard name or number. You'll be directed to matching standards at the IEEE standards store. If you are an educational institution seeking to read a standard or would like to subscribe to view standards, be sure to visit Standards in the Classroom as your educational institution may have access to all IEEE Standards through the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, which provides access to IEEE journals, transactions, letters, magazines and conference proceedings, IET journals and conference proceedings, IEEE Standards and IEEE educational courses.
